For many years, Certech has been carrying out developments in the field of polymer materials. Among these, the use of supercritical fluid injection in extrusion has been investigated for their interesting properties in terms of plasticizing and solvent effects.
Supercritical fluid injection in twin-screw extruder
Recent investigations at Certech have validated the possibility of using supercritical fluid injection such as carbon dioxide (CO2) under supercritical conditions into our extruders and this opens up new perspectives. Potential applications include:
• Modification of polymers in the melt (chemical grafting)
• Recycling of polymer waste
• Blending of polymers and composites
• Foaming
Industrial application sectors which might benefit from this technology include recycling, packaging, life sciences and many more.
